News: PlayStation 3 Sales up Nearly 300% Since Price Cut

PS3_4 In what must be shocking news to those convinced Sony's latest game console was doomed in the current generation's console race, SCEA today released statistics showing a fantastic increase in sales since the November 2 release of the $399 40GB PS3 and the price cut to $499 for the 80GB PS3.

Overall, PS3 hardware sales have increased 298% compared to previous weeks' sales data.  The numbers for this years' Black Friday weekend sales are also up 245% compared to last years' sales, though that can largely be attributed to the fact that it was next to impossible to find a PS3 last year.

This is certainly good news for Sony all around, who has been badly needing to jumpstart sales of the PS3 in the United States.  With the recent release of some AAA-grade gaming titles, the continuing dominance of the Blu-ray disc movie format, and now a much more reasonable cost of entry, the PS3 may end up being a huge winner on all fronts this holiday season.
