For those people who've been wanting a Blu-ray disc movie player but have been put off by the prices, Philips may have the deal for you. From now through December 10, the Philips Outlet store has refurbished BDP9000 Blu-ray disc players available for the ridiculously low price of $199.99 with free shipping.
The Philips BDP9000 is based on the Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray disc player and is a first-gen model. As such, there is no support for upcoming Profile 1.1 features such as PIP, advanced audio codecs, or 1080p24 output. It also will take longer to load discs with advanced BD-J features than on some newer players. But for only $199, it makes for an excellent second room player, or an alternative to the low-end Toshiba HD DVD players.
