According to numbers released today by the studio, 130,000 copies of SpiderMan 3 on Blu-ray Disc sold in the first 6 days of availability, making the title Sony Pictures fastest selling Blu-ray disc to date! At this time it is unclear if this refers to only the SpiderMan 3 disc or both the single film and the three movie boxed set. Either way, this would likely place SpiderMan 3 second to Warner Brothers 300 among the fastest selling high definition titles.
Last week, of course, Paramount shocked the world, announcing that Transformers had sold 190,000 copies on HD DVD in its first week of release. Unfortunately for them, when the actual Nielson numbers came out, the number was actually 115,000... almost 40% less than Paramount had initially claimed. Oops. Assuming Sony learned from Paramount's mistake, it seems likely that they are basing their sales numbers on the actual NPD figures... rather than throwing darts as some studios apparently do.
