News: Pioneer Announces New PC Blu-ray "Combo" Drive

 

Following up on the Chinese release of the first PC Blu-ray "combo" drive, Pioneer USA announced that the BDC-2202 drive will make its way to U.S. shores this June.  The drive reads Blu-ray movie and data discs, and reads, writes, and rewrites DVD and CD media.  The drive has a surprising fast 5x read speed for single layer Blu-ray media, and a standard 2x read speed for dual layered media.  The MSRP is scheduled to be only $299, including Blu-ray movie playback, and DVD/CD burning software.  This makes the drive considerably cheaper than any Blu-ray writer.

This should be an excellent option for HTPC owners looking to go high-def.
